Neil J. Numark is President of Numark Associates, Inc., a Washington, DC-based energy and environmental consulting firm providing research services in both the technical and policy arenas to government and private sector clients in the United States and abroad, as well as management services to overseas corporations conducting business in the United States. Numark founded the firm in 1991 after previous positions with the U.S. House of Representatives, the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission and the firm International Energy Associates Limited. He also co-founded the Sustainable Energy Institute and has served on its Board of Directors since 2000.
Numark Associates aims to assist government and industry in protecting public health and safety and the environment; in providing reliable and affordable energy supplies and utilization technologies; and in securely disposing the dangerous residues of Cold War-era nuclear weapons programs.
Neil Numark maintains expertise in U.S. energy, climate change and clean air policy; deregulation of the U.S. electric power sector; regulation of nuclear power plant safety and security; nuclear fuel cycle, waste management and nonproliferation issues; and other areas. He holds a B.A. in Physics from the University of Colorado (1981) and an M.S. in Environmental Health Sciences (concentrations in Radiological Health and Environmental Policy) from Harvard University (1983).
