The Sustainable Energy Institute was formed to:
Facilitate public debate and national/international dialogue on low and non-carbon-emitting technologies for long-term future energy supply in the United States and internationally, as well as demand-side management;
Educate the public on energy choices by producing and distributing reports that aim to make complex technological and policy issues understandable to non-experts;
Engage U.S. and foreign policymakers in a broad discussion of strategies with the objective of improving the democratic policymaking process in the energy and environmental area, the quality of which varies widely among countries;
Help to ensure well-informed government and private sector planning and policymaking on energy supply and demand issues;
Promote international exchange of views and opinions on energy options through SEI’s international affiliations. SEI was initially engaged in activities in the United States and Japan, and may one day expand to Europe and developing regions.
