Marcus DuBois King
Director of Research
Marcus D. King has been part of the SEI team since its inception but has served as Research Director since November 2002, a position in which he supervises the daily operations of the Institute. Prior to SEI, Marcus was Senior Manager for Energy and Security Programs at Numark Associates,
a DC-based energy and environmental consulting firm. During the Clinton Administration, Marcus served as Staff Specialist to the Deputy Under Secretary for Environmental Security at the Department of Defense, from 2000-2001, where he represented the United States in negotiations of the Kyoto Protocol;
and as Research Assistant to the Deputy Secretary and Under Secretary of the Department of Energy (1994-1997).
Marcus maintains expertise in U.S. and international energy and climate change policy; nuclear waste management and nonproliferation issues; international environmental law and organizations; and other areas. He holds a B.S. in Foreign Service from Georgetown University (1993) and an M.A. in Law and Diplomacy
from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University (2000) with concentrations in International Resource and Environmental Policy and International Security Studies. Marcus is currently writing his Fletcher Ph.D. dissertation on the national security implications of climate change. He is an adjunct lecturer in Political Science at George Washington University.
Alex Amerman
Research Analyst
Alex joined SEI as a Development Intern in May 2004, after graduating from the George Washington University with a Bachelors degree in International Affairs, with a concentration in International Development Studies. In September of 2004, Alex joined the SEI staff as a Research Analyst. Alex focuses on several projects at SEI, including the 2005 International Sustainable Energy Leaders Project, SEI’s ongoing Sustainable Energy Roundtable Series, and the International Sustainable Energy Report. His efforts with regard to these projects include research, communication and coordination with outside project participants, policy tracking, and information management. While at George Washington, Alex became increasingly concerned with environmental issues and developed an awareness of the importance of implementing renewable energy solutions in developing countries.
